About Mascoma Audio Visual Club

Empowering Creativity. Building Community. Capturing Stories.

Mascoma Audio Visual Club, better known as Mascoma AV, is a nationally recognized, student-driven program dedicated to storytelling, technology, and leadership. Mascoma AV offers the most diverse range of opportunities available to students anywhere.

From filmmaking and live show production to radio broadcasting, drone operations, flight simulation, IT and network implementation, concert management, animation, photography, visual effects, and game development, the club empowers students to explore every corner of the modern media landscape.

Despite being located in a school of fewer than 340 students, Mascoma AV consistently maintains around 20 highly active members each year, a small but mighty team that produces professional-quality work and builds community through creativity.

What We Do

Mascoma AV provides hands-on experience in nearly every area of modern media production. Members run sound, lighting, video, and livestreams for all major school and community events, while also creating original films, digital content, and broadcasts that reach audiences far beyond the district.

The club runs every play, musical, and concert at Mascoma, managing around 11 major live productions annually, in addition to supporting community deliberative sessions, district-wide events, and live sound work for local bands and performances. Altogether, Mascoma AV executes nearly 100 live events each year, produces over 80 videos and films, and over 100 livestreams every home game, complete with professional-grade graphics and commentary.

Every piece of online content is provided free to the public, ensuring that the creativity, talent, and dedication of Mascoma’s students are shared openly with the community.

Our Projects

🎬 “They’re Not Just Students”
A student-produced documentary exploring the essential role trusted adults play in student well-being. Through heartfelt interviews and powerful storytelling, the film reminds us that behind every thriving student is an adult who believed in them.

🎤 NHSAA Innovation Conference
Mascoma AV members represented their school at the NHSAA Innovation Conference, presenting on the importance of AV clubs in schools. Students led a live-streamed session on educational innovation, advocacy, and the power of student-led production programs.

🎭 Ride the Cyclone
An ambitious, student-run musical—directed, built, managed, and performed entirely by Mascoma AV members. In the same year, the club also provided technical direction for Little Shop of Horrors and The Little Mermaid, successfully running three musicals side-by-side across middle and high school productions. This remarkable feat showcased Mascoma AV’s unmatched skill, passion, and commitment to excellence.

JOSEPHINE FORD

Club President

AV Club, it's never too much.
Never in my life did I think I would be where I am now. The summer before my senior year I remember thinking that I wanted to do something big. I wanted to graduate knowing that I had gone as far as I could possibly go.
I first began to accept leadership roles as stage manager of drama productions, and the first official president of our schools AV club. This inspired me to become the first ever student director of a musical that rehearsed alongside the other two additional musicals that my school held. During all of these projects I found a love for filmmaking. I held a halloween special for my AV club to write, film, and edit in only 5 hours. I completed  a documentary about trusted adults in schools and filmed multiple newsletters for our school’s website.
During all of this I juggled my responsibilities as a student, a director, a club president, and a worker for the school, streaming sports games and running the equipment in our auditorium.
While I have many accomplishments, these projects are the ones that made me into the person I am today. Live a life without limits, and make the impossible possible.

Telling Stories, Finding Ours.
AV is about more than what we do. Yes, we film videos, run live streams, fly drones, and so much more, but I think about it as something different. It's about inspiring students and allowing them to have opportunities to follow their own interests and build lasting memories with the people they interact with. For me, AV was a place I could show up when I could and have a community of driven, excited students around me. I could be smart without being a nerd and I found the intersection between technology and art that I didn't know existed. It allowed me to build my resume while finding my own interests, and enabled me to build my leadership, critical thinking, management, and creativity. AV supports students in a way that I had never witnessed before. AV has done so much for me and I will be forever grateful for the amazing opportunities that it has offered me. The two leaders of AV club have a saying: just say yes to a kid and see where it takes them. That's what AV does. It takes them far, it helps them find something they love. Just say yes. It truly is an amazing program that teaches students that their dreams are reachable, realistic, and exciting.

Student Messages:

" Starting as a freshman, I was concerned about making new friends and fitting in. Because I already knew people in it, I decided to join AV Club. Since joining, I've gotten so many opportunities such as being assistant stage manager for Little Shop of Horrors and Arscenic and Old Lace as well as doing props and costumes for the AV Club's productions Ride the Cyclone. I love the freedom the club allows. You can do photography, streaming, theatrical production and pretty much anything else AV related. Seth is very supportive of everyone and makes so many things possible. We really couldn't do it without him. "
" AV's been a great way to pursue my interests in photography and film, as well as a place wehre I've met some great people. It's honestly more than just AV: It teaches you valuable skills that you can apply to the rest of your life. It's a place where all ideas are welcome and the answer is never no. "
" There's always people to support you, whether it's giving rides, helping with homework, or just listening to your problems. AV Club is always a wonderful experience. "

Ride the Cyclone at Mascoma

  Mascoma AV Club Presents:
Ride the Cyclone

This musical was directed, built, managed and performed by Mascoma AV Students.

Four years ago Mascoma AV Club was formed and are now running over 60% of the events at Mascoma High School. The club had the ambition to perform and build an entire musical alongside their regular duties of running tech for the annual high school drama production musical. This is an amazing feat that each member should be significantly proud of!
